Instructions
Create a safe, open space for movement where children can move freely without bumping into things. 'We need lots of space to dance! Let's make sure we can stretch our arms out without touching anyone.'
Begin with warm-up movements that everyone can do. 'Let's wiggle our fingers... now our arms... shake out our legs!' Get bodies moving before introducing more structured dance.
Use imaginative prompts for movement. 'Move like a bouncy ball! Now like a slithery snake! Now like a robot!' Give permission to move in different ways.
Respond to different types of music. 'This music is slow and flowy—let your body move slowly too. Now this music is fast and jumpy!' Help children connect movement to musical elements.
Model movement yourself with enthusiasm. 'Watch me spin! Wheeee! Now I'm stretching up high! Who can reach the sky?' Your participation encourages children's engagement.
Celebrate all movement without correcting. 'I love how you're moving! Everyone's dance is different and that's wonderful!' Value self-expression over technique.
