Instructions
Begin with simple threading activities to develop fine motor skills. 'Thread the beads onto the string, making a pattern. One bead... pull it through... another bead...' Build dexterity first.
Introduce weaving with cardboard looms. 'See how the threads go up and down? We weave over one, under the next, over one, under the next...' Use clear, repetitive language.
Teach the weaving chant: 'Over, under, over, under...' This helps children remember the pattern and stay focused. 'Keep going! Over, under, over, under...'
Let children choose their own materials and colours. 'What colours do you want in your weaving? Pick some wools and ribbons you like!' Value their creative choices.
Introduce simple sewing when children are ready. 'Push the needle up through the fabric... now down through the next hole...' Supervise closely and celebrate each stitch.
Display finished textiles proudly. 'Look at the beautiful weaving Amara made! See the pattern she created with the colours!' Value textile art alongside other art forms.
