Instructions
Build drama skills gradually through games and warm-ups. 'Let's play freeze—when the music stops, freeze like a statue! Now freeze looking happy... angry... surprised!' Develop expression playfully.
Teach drama techniques explicitly. 'When you're on stage, face the audience so they can see you. Project your voice—speak to the back wall!' Help children understand performance skills.
Work collaboratively to create plays. 'Our story is about a dragon. What happens first? What does the dragon do? What other characters do we need?' Value all contributions.
Assign roles sensitively. 'Everyone has an important job. Some people are actors, some are making sound effects, and some are helping with props. All jobs are essential!'
Rehearse without over-drilling. 'Let's practise the dragon scene again. Remember, the dragon is scary but friendly!' Keep it fun and flexible.
Celebrate performances for real audiences. 'We're going to perform our play for the Nursery children! They're our audience.' Create genuine performance opportunities.
