Instructions
Ensure children are confident with the song before attempting a round. 'Let's make sure everyone knows Row, Row, Row Your Boat really well first!' Practice until it's automatic.
Explain the concept of a round simply. 'We're all going to sing the same song, but we start at different times. It sounds like magic when we do it!' Build excitement.
Start with two groups only. 'This half of the room starts first. When we get to gently down the stream, the other half starts from the beginning. Ready?'
Stay with one group initially to anchor them. 'I'll sing with the first group to help you keep going. Listen for the other group starting!' Support until children gain confidence.
Celebrate the effect. 'Did you hear that? Both groups singing together made such a beautiful sound!' Record and play back so children can hear themselves.
Progress gradually. 'Now let's try with three groups starting at different times!' Build complexity as children's skills develop.
