Acrobat Balance Beam

Objectives
- Students will walk across a balance beam or line.
- Students will maintain balance for at least 5 seconds on one foot.
Materials
- Balance beam or tape line
- Circus music
- Soft mats
Instructions
1. Set up a low balance beam or tape line on the floor.
2. Pretend to be circus acrobats walking the tightrope.
3. Practise walking forward, sideways, and backward.
4. Add challenges like carrying a ball or balancing a beanbag on head.
Educator tip
Hold hands with children who need extra support initially.
Assessment
Observe and note: ability to follow two-step instructions, use of new vocabulary in context, early problem-solving strategies, and sustained shared thinking episodes. Assess against Development Matters age-band expectations. Observe balance duration and walking control.
