Instructions
Introduce mindful communication: speaking and listening with full attention and good intention. Practise mindful speaking: pausing before responding, choosing words carefully, speaking with kindness. Practise mindful listening: full attention, not planning what to say, not interrupting. Combine in compassionate communication: expressing needs kindly, hearing others fully. Use in difficult conversations.
Educator tip
Model mindful communication throughout the day, not just during activities. Children learn most from consistent adult modelling.
Assessment
Assess against Early Learning Goals (ELGs). Document evidence of 'expected' or 'exceeding' descriptors. Note: independent application of skills, ability to explain reasoning, and capacity to build on prior learning. Observe speaking intention, listening quality, and compassionate communication in practice.
