Metal Insets combine geometric exploration with fine motor development, simultaneously building shape knowledge and writing readiness.
- Framework: Montessori
- Unit: Mathematics
- Learning area: Geometry
- Level: Ages 3-5
Objectives
- Develop pencil control for geometric shapes
- Learn shape names through tracing
- Build pre-writing skills through geometry
Materials
- Metal Insets: 10 geometric shapes
- Colored pencils
- Paper squares
- Inset frames
Instructions
1. Select frame (e.g. triangle). Place on paper. 2. Trace inside of frame with colored pencil. 3. Select inset. Place on paper. Trace around outside. 4. Fill shape with parallel lines. 5. Change direction, add patterns. 6. Create designs with multiple shapes.
