Phonograms — Diphthongs (oi, oy, ow, ou)
Diphthongs are the slidy vowels of English. 'oi' in 'boil,' 'oy' in 'boy,' 'ow' in 'cow,' 'ou' in 'cloud.' The child's ear hears the slide. A mispronounced diphthong produces a nonsense word; the child self-corrects.
