- Opinion writing frame
- Writing paper
- Published opinion pieces for models
Instructions
1. Present prompt: 'What is the best pet?' 2. 'State your opinion: I think is the best pet.' 3. 'Give reasons: because .' 4. 'Give more reasons: also, .' 5. 'Write a conclusion: That is why I think .' 6. Share and discuss: 'Can you have different opinions?' 7. 'Yes! But you need reasons!'
Educator tip
Teach children that opinions backed by reasons are stronger than those without. 'Dogs are the best' is weaker than 'Dogs are the best because they are loyal and playful.'
