- Framework: IPC
- Unit: Fairytales
- Learning area: Physical Development
- Level: Infant & Toddler
Objectives
- Develops balance and coordination through varied movement
- Introduces concepts of quiet and gentle movement
- Encourages following directions
Materials
- Flower shapes on the floor (paper or fabric)
- Soft music
- Space for movement
- Butterfly props to hold
Instructions
Create a 'garden path' with flower shapes on the floor. Invite children to tiptoe through the garden 'so we don't wake the sleeping flowers.' Play soft music and demonstrate tiptoeing, stepping on flowers, and gentle movements. For older toddlers, add instructions like 'step on the red flower.' For infants, hold their hands and guide gentle steps or let them crawl through.
Educator tip
Make it magical with whispered voices and gentle encouragement—this is also a great calming activity.
Assessment
Note children's balance development, their ability to follow movement cues, and their engagement with the imaginative scenario.
