LETTER SPEED TESTS: 'How many letter a's can you write in 30 seconds? Ready... go!' This develops motor automaticity — the ability to write without thinking about formation.
WORD WRITING: 'Write as many 'the' words as you can in one minute!' High-frequency words should become automatic through practice.
BEATING PERSONAL BESTS: 'Last time you wrote 12 a's. Can you beat it today?' Personal improvement is the goal, not competition.
MAINTAINING QUALITY: 'Fast AND neat! If I can't read it, it doesn't count!' Speed must not come at the expense of legibility.
