PREPARING PLAYDOUGH: Ensure each child has their own ball of playdough that's been warmed and kneaded to the right consistency—not too hard. Cold, stiff dough is difficult for small hands.

CHOOSING MUSIC: Select upbeat, rhythmic music appropriate for the age group. Nursery rhyme songs, pop songs with steady beats, or specific 'Dough Disco' songs work well.

LEADING MOVEMENTS: Demonstrate movements clearly, facing children (mirror-image): 'Squeeze the dough! Squeeze, squeeze, squeeze!' 'Roll it in your palms—round and round!' 'Poke with your fingers—poke, poke, poke!'

INCLUDING KEY MOVEMENTS: Cover movements that build hand strength: squeezing with whole hand, pinching with fingers, rolling between palms, poking with index finger, stretching and pulling, flattening with palms.

MAKING IT FUN: This should be joyful! Sing along, be enthusiastic, make silly faces. 'Squeeze like you're making orange juice! Stretch like it's pizza dough! Poke like you're ringing doorbells!'

KEEPING IT SHORT: 3-5 minutes is plenty. End while children are still engaged. 'Last squeeze! Big squeeze! And... relax.' Children can then play freely with the dough.

OBSERVING STRENGTH: Notice who finds movements easy or difficult. Some children may have weak hand strength. Regular dough disco helps build this over time. Never make children feel they're doing it 'wrong'.

EXTENDING FREELY: After led activity, children can use dough freely. Provide tools: rolling pins, cutters, plastic knives. Free play continues the strengthening in child-led ways.
