Instructions
USING RHYTHM FOR REGULATION: Rock, swing, or bounce babies rhythmically. Rhythmic movement activates the vestibular system and supports regulation. Adjust pace to the baby's needs.
MATCHING BABY'S STATE: If a baby is over-aroused, use slow, gentle rhythms. If under-stimulated, use livelier rhythms. Match and then gradually shift to help them reach a regulated state.
CREATING RHYTHMIC ROUTINES: Incorporate rhythm throughout the day: patting during settling, swaying during stories, tapping during songs. Consistent rhythm becomes a regulation tool.
TEACHING SELF-RHYTHMING: Older babies can learn to create their own rhythms: banging a drum, shaking a maraca. 'You're making your own music! That drum sounds great!'
