NORMALISING DISAPPOINTMENT: 'Sometimes things don't go the way we want. That feeling is called disappointment. EVERYONE feels disappointed sometimes—even adults. It's a normal feeling.'
DISCUSSING SCENARIOS: 'What if you wanted to play outside but it's raining? What if your friend can't come to play? What if you didn't win the game? These are all disappointing. What could we do?'
TEACHING COPING STRATEGIES: 'When you feel disappointed, you can: take deep breaths, think of something you CAN do instead, talk about your feelings, or try again another time.'
MODELLING YOUR OWN DISAPPOINTMENT: 'I'm disappointed because the printer isn't working. But I'm going to take a breath and think of another way to do this. I'll manage my disappointment.'
