LEARNING FROM FAMILIES: 'Amara's family celebrates Eid! Amara, can you tell us about it? What special things do you do?' Let families be the experts on their own celebrations.
CELEBRATING AUTHENTICALLY: Don't tokenise cultures. Celebrate properly: 'During Diwali, families light diva lamps, eat special food, and give gifts. It's a festival of light. Let's make diva lamps!'
FINDING COMMONALITIES: 'Lots of celebrations involve getting together with family, eating special food, and giving presents! Christmas, Eid, Diwali, Chanukah—they're different but also similar!'
BEING INCLUSIVE: Ensure all families see their cultures reflected. If a child's celebration isn't well-known, research it: 'We'd love to learn about YOUR special celebrations!'
