Objectives

Materials

• Coloured paper leaves
• String for vines
• Pattern cards

Instructions

Create leaf patterns on vines: ABAB, AABB, ABC. Extend and create new patterns.

Educator tip

Have children 'read' patterns aloud to reinforce sequences.

Assessment

Observe and note: ability to follow two-step instructions, use of new vocabulary in context, early problem-solving strategies, and sustained shared thinking episodes. Assess against Development Matters age-band expectations. Observe pattern creation and extension accuracy.
