Materials

• Rope 'snakes' (various lengths)
• Cubes for measuring
• Recording sheets

Instructions

Measure rope snakes using cubes or hands. Record and compare: 'Which snake is longest?'

Educator tip

Introduce vocabulary: longer, shorter, same length.

Assessment

Observe and note: ability to follow two-step instructions, use of new vocabulary in context, early problem-solving strategies, and sustained shared thinking episodes. Assess against Development Matters age-band expectations. Observe measurement technique and comparison language.
