Instructions
Sing throughout the day, not just at 'music time.' Sing during transitions, routines, and play. 'This is the way we wash our hands, wash our hands, wash our hands...' Music makes everyday moments joyful.
Use a core repertoire of songs that children learn thoroughly. Repetition builds confidence and fluency. 'Let's sing your favourite—Twinkle Twinkle!' Gradually add new songs to the familiar ones.
Add actions and props to make songs multi-sensory. 'Wind the bobbin up! Let's do the actions together!' Actions help children remember words and stay engaged.
Encourage children to request songs using song cards. 'Point to the song you want! You've chosen Wheels on the Bus!' This gives children agency and builds a shared repertoire.
Celebrate all participation. Some children sing loudly, some whisper, some just do actions. 'I can see everyone joining in!' Value all forms of engagement equally.
Include songs from children's home cultures and languages. 'Aisha's mummy taught us this song! Let's sing it together.' This honours diversity and expands everyone's musical experience.
