Charades builds receptive language, gross motor skills, and turn-taking in a fun, social format.

Objectives

• Imitate simple motions
• Respond to modelled gestures
• Show understanding of action words

Materials

• Action picture cards (walk, jump, clap)
• Open space

Instructions

Model a simple action and ask, 'Can you do this?' Let children copy and guess the action.

Educator tip

Use exaggerated movements and simple vocabulary.

Assessment

Observe and note: ability to follow two-step instructions, use of new vocabulary in context, early problem-solving strategies, and sustained shared thinking episodes. Assess against Development Matters age-band expectations. Observe ability to imitate and respond to visual cues.
