1. Teach letter format: greeting, body, closing, signature.

2. Brainstorm questions or thanks for helpers.

3. Children write their own letter.

4. Edit for capitals and punctuation.

5. Address envelopes and mail if possible.

Assessment

Assess against Early Learning Goals (ELGs). Document evidence of 'expected' or 'exceeding' descriptors. Note: independent application of skills, ability to explain reasoning, and capacity to build on prior learning. Assess letter format, complete sentences, and appropriate content.
