Objectives
- Identify and use common colours in a community-themed art project
Materials
- Paints or crayons
- Paper
- Photos of community places (stores, vehicles)
Instructions
1. Show community scenes and identify colours.
2. Have students draw a community scene using colours discussed.
3. Label or circle colours on each child's work.
Educator tip
Ask students to point out colours they see on their way to school too.
Assessment
Observe and note: ability to follow two-step instructions, use of new vocabulary in context, early problem-solving strategies, and sustained shared thinking episodes. Assess against Development Matters age-band expectations. Evaluate colour use and vocabulary accuracy.
