- Framework: EYFS
- Unit: EYFS Champions of Character
- Learning area: Communication and Language
- Level: EYFS Reception
Objectives
- Identify resilience in story characters
- Share personal resilience experiences
- Develop bounce-back strategies
Materials
- Resilience-themed books
- Personal story prompts
- Resilience strategy cards
Instructions
Read stories about characters who face difficulties and overcome them. Identify what made them resilient: they asked for help, they kept trying, they found different solutions, they didn't give up. Share personal resilience stories in a safe circle. Develop a class list of 'bounce-back' strategies for when things get hard. Practise applying strategies to hypothetical challenges.
Educator tip
Validate that resilience is hard and that it's okay to feel sad or frustrated before bouncing back. Resilience doesn't mean not having hard feelings.
Assessment
Assess against Early Learning Goals (ELGs). Document evidence of 'expected' or 'exceeding' descriptors. Note: independent application of skills, ability to explain reasoning, and capacity to build on prior learning. Observe identification of resilience in stories, quality of personal sharing, and articulation of bounce-back strategies.
