Media literacy helps children think critically about the character models they see in shows and games.

Materials

• Age-appropriate media clips
• Analysis worksheets
• Discussion prompts

Instructions

Watch clips from age-appropriate media and analyse: Are characters being kind? How do characters treat each other? What would we do differently? Discuss how media can influence what we think is normal or acceptable. Identify positive role models in media.

Educator tip

Choose clips carefully and preview thoroughly. Start with clear examples before nuanced ones.

Assessment

Assess against Early Learning Goals (ELGs). Document evidence of 'expected' or 'exceeding' descriptors. Note: independent application of skills, ability to explain reasoning, and capacity to build on prior learning. Observe critical analysis of media and application to personal behaviour choices.
