- Framework: Montessori
- Unit: Practical Life
- Learning area: Grace & Courtesy
- Level: Ages 3-4
Objectives
- Understand indoor vs outdoor behavior
- Develop self-regulation
- Build awareness of environment
Materials
- Indoor and outdoor space
Instructions
1. Discuss: 'Inside we walk, outside we can run.' 2. Why? Inside: furniture, people, breakable things. 3. Practice walking inside at different speeds: slow, medium, brisk. 4. Go outside and compare: walking, jogging, running. 5. Return inside and transition back to walking. 6. Notice the body calming down.
Educator tip
Frame it positively: 'You CAN run outside' rather than 'Don't run inside.' Help children notice the transition in their bodies.
Assessment
Child walks appropriately indoors and transitions between indoor/outdoor behavior.
