Sharing teaches generosity, patience, and the social skills of negotiation—essential for community life.
- Framework: Montessori
- Unit: Practical Life
- Learning area: Grace & Courtesy
- Level: Ages 3-5
Objectives
- Learn to share and take turns
- Develop patience and generosity
- Build social problem-solving
Materials
- Shared classroom materials
- Timer (optional)
Instructions
1. In Montessori, materials are shared by waiting, not by forced sharing. 2. If someone is using what you want: 'May I use that when you're finished?' 3. Wait patiently or choose another work. 4. When they're finished, thank them. 5. When someone asks for your material: 'I'm using it now. I'll let you know when I'm done.'
Educator tip
Montessori respects the child's right to finish their work. We don't force sharing—we teach waiting. This builds deeper generosity.
Assessment
Child requests materials politely and waits patiently for their turn.
