Word Study — Suffixes (-tion, -able, -ness, -ly)
Suffixes change what a word does. 'Act' is a verb; 'action' is a noun; 'active' is an adjective; 'actively' is an adverb. The suffix is the control — wrong suffix, wrong part of speech. Indirect aim: part-of-speech mastery, vocabulary generation, spelling patterns.
