Instructions
ASSIGNING MEANINGFUL TASKS: Give helpers real tasks—feeding the fish, watering plants, handing out snack plates. Real responsibility builds real confidence: 'Today you're our special helper!'
MAKING IT ACHIEVABLE: Choose tasks the child can genuinely complete. Break down if needed: 'First, pick up the cups. Then put them on the trolley. You'll be brilliant at this!'
PRAISING SPECIFICALLY: Don't just say 'well done'. Be specific: 'You remembered to water every single plant! The plants will grow because of you! You're so responsible!'
ENSURING FAIRNESS: Use a rota so everyone gets a turn. Children at this age notice unfairness keenly. 'Tomorrow it's Mia's turn to be helper. You were helper yesterday.'
