Zipper Frame
The zipper's click of teeth engaging is the captivating moment. A misaligned start leaves the slider stuck — the child feels resistance and retries. Independence in dressing gains a major step.

Materials
- Zipper dressing frame with a heavy-duty plastic zipper
- Work rug
Instructions
1. Unroll a rug and place the frame on it. 2. Hold the bottom with the non-dominant hand, thumb and forefinger on the zipper stop. 3. With the dominant hand, insert the pin of the right side into the slider box on the left. 4. Push fully down until it clicks. 5. Hold the bottom steady and grasp the slider tab. 6. Pull up smoothly with one long motion. 7. Finish at the top. 8. To unzip, reverse — pull the slider down smoothly. 9. Release the pin to separate the sides.
Educator tip
Check zippers periodically for damage; a stuck zipper frustrates rather than teaches. Replace frames when the zipper wears.
Assessment
Note whether the child aligns the pin correctly before zipping, and whether they force or adjust when stuck.
