Pouring Water: Pitcher to Glasses
Pouring into multiple glasses builds on basic pouring by adding the cognitive challenge of distributing liquid equally.
- Framework: Montessori
- Unit: Practical Life
- Learning area: Preliminary Exercises
- Level: Ages 3-5
Objectives
- Refine pouring skills with multiple targets
- Develop estimation and equal distribution
- Build serving skills
Materials
- Small glass pitcher with water
- Three to four small glasses
- Tray
- Sponge
Instructions
1. Place pitcher and glasses on tray. 2. Hold pitcher with dominant hand. 3. Pour a small amount into the first glass. 4. Move to the second glass, pour the same amount. 5. Continue to third glass. 6. Return to first glass and add more. 7. Continue rounds until glasses are equally filled.
Educator tip
Model the 'round robin' pouring technique. Children often want to fill one glass completely first—show them why distributing works better.
Assessment
