Sandpaper Letters
Sandpaper Letters combine visual, auditory, and tactile learning. Tracing the textured letter builds muscle memory for formation while connecting the sound to the symbol.

Instructions
1. Select 3 contrasting letters. 2. Trace first letter with two fingers, say sound: '/m/'. 3. Child traces and says sound. 4. Three-period lesson: 'This says /m/.' 'Trace the one that says /m/.' 'What does this say?' 5. Practice with eyes closed. 6. Introduce new letters gradually.
Educator tip
Teach sounds, not letter names initially. Group letters by visual similarity but introduce contrasting sounds first (m, s, t before m, n).
Assessment
Child traces letters correctly while saying sounds, demonstrating sound-symbol correspondence.
