Instructions
Lead 'dough disco' — a five-minute playdough workout to music. 'Roll it in your hands! Squeeze it tight! Poke it with your fingers! Make it flat!' Each action builds specific hand muscles.
After the warm-up, model making letter shapes: 'Can you make a long sausage? Now bend it round... like a 'c'! Or make it into an 's' — like a snake! Sssss!'
Focus on letter shapes that connect to children's names: 'Sophia, your name starts with 'S'. Can you make an 'S' with your dough? Like a wiggly snake!'
This is NOT formal letter formation instruction — it's playful physical preparation. The dough provides resistance that builds hand strength for eventual pencil grip.
Celebrate all attempts: a wobbly 'S' is perfect at this age. 'That's an 'S'! Sophia's special letter!' The positive association with letter shapes matters more than accuracy.
Repeat dough disco regularly — ideally daily. Like any physical training, hand strength builds through consistent practice over time.
