Seed to Plant Investigation

Objectives

• Observe and describe how seeds grow into plants
• Identify what plants need to grow (water, sunlight, soil)
• Connect plant growth to food we eat

Materials

• Bean or sunflower seeds
• Clear plastic cups
• Soil and cotton balls
• Spray bottles with water
• Observation journals

Assessment

Observe and note: ability to follow two-step instructions, use of new vocabulary in context, early problem-solving strategies, and sustained shared thinking episodes. Assess against Development Matters age-band expectations. Teacher observation of student's ability to describe plant needs and document growth observations.
