- Learning area: Olfactory Discrimination
- Level: Ages 3-6
Objectives

Materials
- Fresh herbs: basil, mint, rosemary, lavender, thyme, cilantro
- Small pots or herb garden
- Blindfold

1. Present each herb. 2. Gently rub leaf to release scent. 3. Smell and describe. 4. Learn herb names. 5. Blindfold: identify herbs by scent alone. 6. Match to label cards. 7. Discuss which foods use each herb.
Educator tip
Rubbing releases essential oils. Teach children to 'waft' the scent toward their nose rather than sniffing deeply.
