Gluing with a Brush
Using a glue brush teaches controlled application and clean technique, building skills used in art, crafts, and later academic projects.
- Framework: Montessori
- Unit: Practical Life
- Learning area: Preliminary Exercises
- Level: Ages 3-5
Objectives
- Learn controlled glue application
- Develop fine motor skills
- Practice clean-up routine
Materials
- White glue in small pot
- Glue brush
- Paper shapes
- Background paper
- Damp cloth for cleanup
Instructions
1. Dip brush into glue pot—just the tip. 2. Wipe excess on rim. 3. Brush glue onto the back of the paper shape. 4. Cover the entire surface thinly. 5. Turn shape over and press onto background. 6. Smooth from center outward. 7. Wipe brush and close glue.
Educator tip
Show 'thin layer' vs 'thick blob.' Children often use too much glue. The brush gives more control than squeeze bottles.
Assessment
Child applies appropriate amount of glue and adheres shapes neatly.
