Your Body is Private
Level 1 requires guided modeling. 'Your Body is Private' reinforces healthy habits and safety awareness in structured format.
- Framework: IPC
- Unit: Health, Safety and Hygiene
- Learning area: Social Studies
- Level: Level 1
Objectives
- Follow 2–3 step directions
- Identify key safety or hygiene concepts
- Participate in discussion
Instructions
Materials
- Large paper doll or a stuffed animal with clothing
- Set of laminated body part flashcards
- A mirror mounted at child height
- Crayons and pre-printed outlines of a human figure
- A bell or chime to signal transitions
Learning Objectives
- Identify the concept of private body parts using the swimsuit rule.
- Demonstrate the ability to say no or stop when feeling uncomfortable.
- Distinguish between public areas of the body and private areas.
- Practice asking a trusted adult for help in a hypothetical scenario.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Gather students in a circle and introduce the concept of personal space using a soft toy.
2. Use the paper doll to explain that areas covered by a swimsuit are private and belong only to the individual.
3. Show the flashcards and ask children to identify which body parts are public, such as hands and arms, and which are private.
4. Model a clear, firm voice by practicing saying stop when someone touches you without permission.
5. Invite children to look in the mirror and point to their own private areas on their clothing to reinforce the boundary.
6. Distribute the human figure outlines and have children color the swimsuit area a specific color to represent privacy.
7. Role-play a scenario where a child asks a teacher for help if they feel uncomfortable.
8. Conclude the session by emphasizing that their body belongs to them and they have the right to keep it safe.
Educator Tip
Keep the language simple and consistent to avoid confusion. If a child becomes anxious during the discussion, redirect them to the concept of trusted adults who are there to help them stay safe and healthy.
Assessment
- Observe if the child can correctly identify private areas on the paper doll.
- Listen for the child using a firm voice during the practice of saying stop.
- Note whether the child can name at least two trusted adults they would go to for help.
Educator tip
Pre-cut difficult pieces; use visual schedule; model health vocabulary.
Assessment
Checklist: engagement, comprehension, correct task attempt.
