Learning Objectives
- Identify and name the letters H, S, and B.

- Practice fine motor skills through cutting and gluing.
- Demonstrate understanding of safety concepts through visual representation.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Gather the children in a circle and introduce the letters H for Health, S for Safety, and B for Bandage.
2. Show the children images of healthy habits, such as washing hands or wearing a helmet, and ask them to identify the starting sound of each word.
3. Distribute one cardstock page to each child, ensuring each page features a large, bold letter.
4. Provide magazines and printouts for children to browse.
5. Guide children to find pictures that match their letter, such as a soap bottle for S or a healthy snack for H.
6. Assist children in cutting out their chosen images using teacher-supervised safety scissors.
7. Instruct children to glue their images onto the corresponding letter page.
8. Encourage children to trace the outline of their letter with a crayon to reinforce recognition.
9. Collect the pages once dry and bind them together using yarn or rings to create a class book.
10. Read the book aloud as a group, asking children to point to the letters they recognize.
Educator Tip
If a child struggles with letter-sound association, focus on the visual shape of the letter rather than the phonetic sound. You can provide pre-cut images for children who find the cutting process frustrating to keep the focus on letter recognition and vocabulary.
Assessment
- Observe if the child can correctly identify the letter on their page when prompted.
- Note if the child successfully matches at least one image to the correct letter sound.
- Record the child's ability to participate in the group discussion about health and safety.
Educator tip
Pre-cut difficult pieces; use visual schedule; model health vocabulary.
Assessment
Checklist: engagement, comprehension, correct task attempt.
