Instructions
Follow the same systematic approach as Set 1: one letter per day, multisensory introduction, connection to known words, daily review of all learned letters.
With eight letters now known (s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d), many CVC words become decodable: sit, sat, pat, pin, pan, man, map, dim, dip, nip, nap, tan, tin, tap, tip, mad, sad, dad, did.
Play blending games: 'I'm going to say a word in robot talk: p-i-n. Can you blend it together? What word is it? PIN! Well done!' Robot talk makes blending fun.
Introduce segmenting: 'I want to write the word 'map'. What sounds can I hear? Mmm-aaa-p. M... A... P. Map!' Children segment orally first, then write.
Use magnetic letters for word building: 'Can you build the word 'sat'? Which letter goes first? S! Then? A! Then? T! SAT! Now change the 's' to 'p' — what word now? PAT!'
Keep daily practice short (ten minutes) and high-energy. Phonics should feel exciting, not laborious.
