Keurboom Nursery School (KBNS) is a preschool in Rondebosch, Western Cape, South Africa, at 123 Main Street. It serves children from 4 months up to Grade R and is described as one of the longest-standing nursery schools in Rondebosch. The school opened in 1993 with 17 children in one classroom and one teacher, and it has since grown into a larger community while keeping a warm, nurturing atmosphere at its centre. KBNS presents itself as a happy, family-oriented school with caring staff, and it aims to support the growth and development of every child.
The school teaches in English. The source does not list a named curriculum, so the clearest picture is of a nursery school shaped by its teachers, assistants, and long-standing commitment to children’s development. Janine McBeth is the principal, and the school says she works with an enthusiastic and energetic team. It also notes that each team member brings something unique, including their own creativity and teaching style, which helps make the school a vibrant and inspiring place for children. Children who move on from KBNS are said to be seen by primary schools as ready for Grade R and Grade 1, with confidence and good manners.
Daily life at KBNS takes place in a lovely old home with welcoming gardens and a spacious outdoor play area. The school is open weekdays from 07:15 to 17:30 and offers holiday care during school holidays, closing only for four weeks over the December and January break. KBNS is independent and sets its own academic calendar, although it aims to align term dates with the WCED school calendar whenever possible. The school also describes its community as diverse, with learners and staff coming from different cultures and backgrounds, and says children quickly develop understanding of, and respect for, one another.
What stands out most about KBNS is its long presence in the community, its family-oriented atmosphere, and the continuity of care offered by committed staff. It may suit families looking for a preschool with a strong sense of belonging, a calm and nurturing environment, and care from early infancy through to Grade R. The combination of a home-like setting, outdoor space, and a staff team that has stayed with the school for many years gives KBNS a grounded and familiar feel. It is a school that seems especially focused on children being known well, supported steadily, and prepared thoughtfully for the next stage.
