American International Montessori School offers a unique and supportive educational environment for families in Berkeley, California. By combining the developmental philosophy of Maria Montessori with deep linguistic immersion, the school provides a nurturing space for children starting from infancy through age 12. The program is designed to foster a sense of global citizenship and personal independence within a multicultural setting. Students are encouraged to explore their interests at their own pace while gaining a profound understanding of new languages and cultures.

The school operates across two distinct campuses within the city to serve its diverse student population. The main campus is situated on Martin Luther King Jr. Way and serves as the primary hub for both language tracks across all age levels. For families seeking a more intimate setting, the Berkeley International Montessori campus on Bancroft Way offers a specialized Japanese Children’s House program. Both locations prioritize a calm and focused atmosphere where native speaking, Montessori trained teachers guide students through their daily lessons and social interactions.

Families can choose between two dedicated immersion tracks in either Japanese or Mandarin Chinese. These programs are deeply integrated into the classroom experience rather than being taught as separate subjects. In the early years, including the Infant Community and Children’s House, the focus remains on natural language acquisition through play, practical life skills, and sensory exploration. As students progress into the Lower and Upper Elementary levels, English is introduced alongside the immersion language. This balanced approach ensures that children develop strong academic foundations in multiple languages while remaining connected to their local community.

The curriculum is carefully structured to provide a continuous learning path that respects each stage of a child's development. By following the Montessori method, the school emphasizes hands on learning and the mastery of concepts through specialized materials. Because every classroom is led by educators who are experts in both their language and the Montessori pedagogy, students receive personalized attention that meets their specific social and academic needs. This inclusive and thoughtful academic experience helps prepare children to move through the world with confidence and a broad perspective.
