Anchorage Cooperative Preschool is an inviting educational environment that serves children between the ages of three and five. The school operates with a deeply child-centered philosophy where the needs of the children are consistently placed at the forefront of every decision. By integrating the unique lifestyles and perspectives of families and the wider community, the school creates a warm atmosphere that feels like a natural extension of a child's home life. The mission is to provide a space where young learners can grow within a supportive framework that values each child as a unique individual and a vital member of the group.
The curriculum is built around the primary pillars of play and exploration. This approach prioritizes social and emotional development, ensuring that every child learns how to navigate the complexities of human interaction in a gentle way. While academic endeavors are thoughtfully included to enhance the overall educational experience, the main focus remains on fostering positive social skills. Through this play-based model, children are encouraged to follow their own interests and curiosity. The English language program is designed so that activities emerge organically from the ideas presented by the families and the children themselves.
Daily life at the preschool involves a variety of collaborative activities that help children practice being a good friend. Students spend their time learning how to take turns, share with others, and listen attentively to their peers. The environment is one where discovery and fun are central to the routine. Children are encouraged to help one another, stand up for themselves so they may be heard and respected, and negotiate conflicts in peaceful ways. This focus on interpersonal growth helps students increase their attention spans and build the confidence necessary to try new things and learn from their mistakes.
What makes Anchorage Cooperative Preschool truly distinctive is its dedication to being the children’s school above all else. It is an ideal fit for families who value a cooperative approach and want their children to develop a genuine excitement for learning and discovery.
