Josiah Montessori

Preschool in Singapore, Central, Singapore

Josiah Montessori is a preschool in Singapore’s Central area, at 3 Temasek Boulevard. It serves children from 2 months to 6 years, with a focus on personalised education from infancy through the Primary Years. The school describes its approach as a twofold environment for the formative years, combining Montessori every morning with Music, Art, and Performance throughout the week. It has been in Singapore since 1997, and the atmosphere in the source materials is calm, light-filled, and carefully prepared, with children known by name and guided by the same teaching team across the year.

The curriculum is built around Montessori and MAP, which stands for Music, Art, and Performance. Montessori work happens every morning, with authentic apparatus, mixed-age groupings in three-year bands, and an independent work cycle. The school says teachers observe closely and step in when needed, helping children focus on the work that matters to them for as long as it takes. English and Mandarin are both part of the learning experience, and the source notes bilingual literacy in the Nursery and Kindergarten years. MAP is described as a full programme rather than enrichment, with five weekly disciplines: Vocal Training, Dance, Art Appreciation, Classical Music Appreciation, and Chinese Speech & Drama.

Daily life follows a clear rhythm. A typical day includes arrival and free play, breakfast, morning circle, outdoor time, a long work cycle, then lunch and rest. The school highlights family-style lunches, quiet hand-over at arrival, and children taking part in simple routines such as pouring, serving, and clearing. Ratios vary by stage, with 1:3 infant care, and the school states that it is ECDA-aligned. The learning spaces shown in the source include low shelves, sensorial materials, and classrooms with natural light, supporting the Montessori focus on independence and concentration. Children also take part in MAP sessions, and the school notes term showcases and a K2 graduation performance.

What stands out most in the source is the combination of steady Montessori routines with a strong performing arts presence built into the week. The school emphasises continuity, with each child known by name and supported by the same teaching team all year, and it highlights outcomes such as self-help, focus, and confidence. It is a good fit for families looking for a bilingual early years setting in Singapore that values independence, structured routines, and regular exposure to music, art, and performance alongside Montessori learning.
