International Preschool

Preschool in Saint Petersburg, Saint Petersburg, Russia

International Preschool is a bilingual preschool and early learning centre in Saint Petersburg, located at ul. Kuibysheva, dom 13, pom 2N. It serves children from 2.5 to 8 years old and describes itself as the first international educational centre for bilingual children in the city. The school has been working since 1993 and presents itself as a cosy, home-like setting for children from around the world. Its atmosphere is centred on helping children enter an English-speaking environment naturally, with English used as a means of learning rather than the end goal.

The school follows EYFS, KS1 and Pre-K programmes, and says that its work is grounded in child pedagogy and psychology. English and Russian are both part of the school’s language environment, with full language immersion as a key feature. Small groups are limited to up to 8 children, and the teaching team is described as experienced English-speaking educators with at least 7 years of experience. Lessons are designed to be comfortable and free from rigid rules, with an emphasis on curiosity, creativity, and helping children think, compare, explore, invent, make decisions, and act independently. The school also notes that it has built a large collection of books and materials from the United Kingdom and the United States for work with children.

Daily life at International Preschool includes a schedule from 9:00 to 15:00, with the option of staying for extended care until 18:00. The centre mentions walks and play, as well as creative and music activities on some of its programmes. It also says that elements of surprise and children’s own individuality are built into lessons, and that English-language outings and celebrations help maintain the bilingual environment beyond the classroom. The school’s facilities information is limited in the source, but the overall picture is of a small, calm setting built around close contact, play, and regular interaction in English.

What makes International Preschool distinctive is its clear focus on creating an English-speaking environment in Saint Petersburg for bilingual and internationally minded families. Rather than teaching English as a separate subject, the school uses it throughout the day so children can begin speaking it naturally. Its long history, small groups, and substantial collection of English-language materials from the UK and the US are central to its identity. It may be a good fit for families seeking an early years setting where bilingual development, play, and a gentle, immersive approach are all part of the same experience.
