Goodstart Carina is a childcare and early learning centre on Old Cleveland Road in Carina, Queensland, at 761 Old Cleveland Road, on the corner of Old Cleveland Road and Cambridge Street. It serves children aged 2 to 5, with toddler and kindergarten programs. The centre describes itself as a warm, home-like early learning environment where children feel known, supported and encouraged to explore. It is open from 7:00am to 6:00pm, Monday to Friday, every weekday of the year except public holidays.
The learning program is guided by each child’s interests, strengths and developing sense of curiosity. Children are given opportunities to explore, create, move and learn at their own pace, and educators build experiences around what children are interested in. The centre includes English as a language, and educators also speak Punjabi and Mandarin, helping children and families feel welcomed and represented. For kindergarten children, there are two Bachelor-qualified kindergarten teachers supporting learning and development as they prepare for the transition to school.
Daily life at Goodstart Carina includes a mix of active, practical and community-based experiences. Weekly Sports Days, fortnightly Bike Days, Bush Kinder and library visits give children chances to learn through movement, nature and their local community. Kindergarten children also take part in monthly cooking lessons, while Nursery and Toddlers have Bollywood dancing. The centre says these experiences help children wonder, experiment and have a go. Families are part of the centre’s life as well, and the community includes families from a range of cultural backgrounds, including Australian, French, Indian and Chinese families.
What stands out most about Goodstart Carina is its strong sense of relationship and familiarity. The centre says longstanding educators provide trusted connections and a sense of security as children grow more independent, and it notes that five team members have between 12 and 16 years of service, contributing to a combined 145 years of experience across the team. Generations of families have also been part of the community, with some children returning later with their own children. It will likely suit families looking for a nurturing, community-minded early learning setting where children are encouraged to follow their interests in a familiar, supportive environment.
