Constructive Triangles
The Constructive Triangles show children that all plane figures can be constructed from triangles—a fundamental geometric concept that supports fraction and area understanding.
- Framework: Montessori
- Unit: Sensorial
- Learning area: Visual Discrimination
- Level: Ages 4-6
Objectives
- Explore triangle properties
- Construct shapes from triangles
- Understand geometric relationships
- Prepare for geometry and fraction concepts
Materials
- Constructive Triangles boxes
- Triangular Box: Various triangles forming larger triangle
- Large Hexagonal Box: Forms hexagons and shapes
- Small Hexagonal Box: Forms parallelograms and rhombi
- Blue Triangles Box: Free construction
Instructions
1. Present one box. 2. Match triangles by color and/or black lines. 3. Form larger shapes by joining triangles. 4. Identify shapes created. 5. Explore different combinations. 6. Progress through boxes in sequence.
Educator tip
The black lines guide matching—triangles with black edges join at those edges to form new shapes.
