Putting on Lip Balm

Applying lip balm teaches children to care for dry or chapped lips independently.

Materials

• Child-safe lip balm stick
• Mirror

Instructions

1. Remove cap from lip balm. 2. Hold by tube, not tip. 3. Look in mirror. 4. Apply to upper lip by gliding across. 5. Apply to lower lip. 6. Press lips together to spread. 7. Replace cap. 8. Store properly.

Educator tip

Discuss when lips need balm (dry, cold weather, sunburn). Teach not to share for hygiene.

Assessment

Child applies lip balm appropriately without waste.
