Instructions
Introduce the concept: 'We're going to make a CLASS NEWSPAPER! Newspapers have news stories, reviews, sports results, interviews, and adverts. We need reporters!'
Assign roles: news reporters (what's happening in class), book reviewers, interview reporters (interview the head teacher!), weather reporters, sports reporters. Every child contributes.
Model newspaper writing: 'A news story answers: Who? What? When? Where? Our story: Class 3 (who) visited the farm (what) on Tuesday (when) in the countryside (where).'
Children write their articles in reporter notebooks. Support with genre-specific scaffolds: news = who/what/when/where; review = opinion + reasons; interview = questions + answers.
Compile into a printed newspaper with photos, headlines, and articles. Distribute to families. 'Extra! Extra! Read all about it! The Class 3 Times!'
This project integrates multiple writing genres (news report, review, interview, advert) in one authentic, purposeful publication. Writing for real readers transforms writing motivation.
