Instructions
Gather the children and explain that today they are stepping into the world of football to try 'Football Word Wall'. Build a class wall of football vocabulary in three languages. Demonstrate the main action slowly, then invite a confident child to show it with you. Divide the class into small groups so every child gets plenty of turns. Move between groups, naming what you see ('I see Mia keeping her eyes on the ball', 'I hear Omar cheering his teammate'). After about ten minutes, bring the class back together. Each group shares one thing that went well and one thing they want to try next time. Close with a short team cheer and a reminder that, just like at the World Cup, every player matters.
Educator tip
Keep groups small, model the action more than you talk, and weave in the names of real World Cup nations to deepen the global connection.
Assessment
Observe and note: ability to follow two-step instructions, use of new vocabulary in context, early problem-solving strategies, and sustained shared thinking episodes. Assess against Development Matters age-band expectations. Observe participation, willingness to try, and emerging skills linked to language and communication. Note any child who needs more modelling next session.
